Engineered hardwood is also different from solid hardwood flooring, which is made mostly of ¾ inch thick planks cut from a solid piece of wood.

Engineered hardwood floors are made of real wood. Inner core of timber is made of different layers of solid wood or of plywood. On top of wood veneer is used to protect inner timber from elements, such as moisture and weather influences. This makes engineered hardwood flooring more durable and flexible than solid wood flooring.
